Day 1: Depart Cairns and climb the Kuranda range to Mareeba. The Mareeba Wetlands is 6.5 kilometres north of Mareeba. Travel north to Biboohra, then a further 7 kilometres on Pickford road to the Visitors Centre. After lunch and a tour (bookings essential), travel back to Mareeba, then on to Dimbulah. Follow signs to the Tyrconnell Historic Gold Mine. Overnight at Tyrconnell.

Day 2: Today starts with a half-day tour (bookings essential). This tour includes morning tea and lunch. After lunch you drive to Almaden and take the Ootan highway south for 58 kms. Here you will see a sign for Mt. Garnet. Turn left and follow this road 42 kms to the Kennedy Highway. Turn right and follow the signs to the Undara Lava Tubes.

The drive time from Tyrconnell to Undara is approximately 3-3.5 hrs (210 kms). Make sure you reach Undara by mid afternoon so you can join the Sunset & Wildlife Tour, which is a must for people who would like to experience the true beauty of the Tropical Savannah. Overnight at the Undara Experience Savannah Guide Station.

Day 3: Your day starts with Bush Breakfast before joining your Savannah Guide for a half-day tour of the Undara Lava Tubes. Morning tea and lunch is included. After your tour you can spend the afternoon on one of the many walking tracks around the lodge and finish off with a refreshing dip in the pool. Take the short trip to Mt. Surprise where you can stay at the Bedrock Village Savannah Guides Site.

Day 4: Join your Savannah Guide for a half-day tour of the fascinating area around Mt. Surprise before you commence your journey to Cobbold Gorge via Georgetown. This is a drive of 185 kms. Overnight at the Cobbold Gorge Savannah Guide Station.

Day 5: The day begins with a half-day tour of Cobbold Gorge with your Savannah Guide. This tour includes morning tea and lunch. After lunch you are free to look around the Forsayth area. Overnight at the Cobbold Gorge Savannah Guide Station.

Day 6: Drive from Forsayth to Einasleigh and on to the Lynd Junction. From here you make your way back to the Forty-Mile Scrub to complete the Undara Loop. It's on to Ravenshoe for the evening. Today's trip is 440 kms. Overnight on the Atherton Tablelands.

Day 7: Visit the many varied attractions on the Atherton Tablelands enroute back to Cairns.
