
13 Day "Drover" Accommodated Safari - Darwin to Cairns
Arnhemland, Kakadu and the Gulf Savannah ... an adventure safari of epic proportions. You'll venture into Arnhemland, learn traditional bush skills from Aboriginal people, follow the tracks of Leichhardt which became The Queensland Road used by legendary drovers.
You'll visit fabulous Kakadu, cattle stations, Lawn Hill Gorge, Borroloola and Hell's Gate, ride the historic "Gulflander" train and relive pioneering history in outback towns. Surely a Great Australian Safari with your Savannah Guide Wilderness Challenge.
Itinerary
Day 1 (LD): Atherton Tableland, Curtain Fig Tree, “The Crater” National Park. Undara Lava Tubes, the world's largest. Antique railway carriage accommodation.
Day 2 (BLD): On to Cobbold Gorge, to cruise on its secluded waterway before a sunset drive Georgetown to overnight.
Day 3 (BLD): Croydon and Black Bull Siding to board the "Gulflander" train bound for Normanton. On to Karumba and a sunset cruise. Karumba tonight.
Day 4 (BLD): "Plains of Promise", Burke & Wills Camp #119, Leichhardt Falls and Burketown en-route to Adel’s Grove for two nights in permanent tent safari accommodation.
Day 5 (BLD): World Heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields and Lawn Hill National Park. Return to Adel's Grove.
Day 6 (BLD): Bowthorn Station lunch with the McGinnis family. Kerry, author of "Pieces of Blue" and "Heart Country” relates tales of outback life during a homestead tour. On to Hell's Gate tonight.
Day 7 (BLD): Cross into the Northern Territory to Borroloola, frontier town. On to Cape Crawford for the night.
Day 8 (BD): Helicopter to see the "Lost City" (optional). Daly Waters, Elsey Cemetery and Mataranka Hot Springs. Overnight in Mataranka.
Day 9 (BLD): Manyallaluk, “The Dreaming Place", to spend time with local Aboriginal people. On to our overnight stop in Katherine.
Day 10 (BLD): Cruise on famous Katherine Gorge this morning (optional) before travelling into Kakadu National Park. We stay in Kakadu for two nights.
Day 11 (B): Nourlangie Rock and the Bowali Centre. A sunset cruise on famous Yellow Waters Billabong (optional).
Day 12 (BLD): Into Arnhemland today to Mt Borradaile. Sandstone shelters occupied by Aborigines as long as 50,000 years ago. Sunset cruise before dinner. Permanent tent accommodation.
Day 13 (BL): Ubirr’s famous Aboriginal rock art and views of the East Alligator River floodplains. Travel on to Darwin.
