Bedrock Village Tours
Bedrock Village Caravan Park and tours is located in the historic township of Mt. Surprise, 320 km southwest of Cairns on the Savannah Way.
Designed and built, by Joe and Jo Lockyer and their children Amy and Toby, on their 9 acres of bushland; 6 years of creation has transformed the area from a basalt landscape into an oasis.
Joe Lockyer has been a member of the Savannah Guide Organisation since 1992 and Bedrock Village was accredited as a Savannah Guide Site in April 2001.
Joe is a highly skilled bushman and has a wealth of knowledge of the local flora, fauna, geology and history. This strong background is put to outstanding use as he shares his passion and enthusiasm through his guided diverse range of tours which include the Undara Volcanic National Park, Cobbold Gorge, Savannahlander train, gem fields, hot springs, cold springs, cattle stations and demonstrations of working cattle dog skills.
Accommodation
Bedrock Village Caravan Park offers spacious, shady, drive through powered sites. Each site has native tree screening on either side to encompass a quiet and private bay.
The lawned camping area, set among the trees, is equipped with its own camp kitchen which includes a toaster, kettle, fridge and hot and cold water sink.
There are 12 cabins at Bedrock Village all of which are air conditioned, ensuited and linen is supplied. 6 of the cabins have full cooking facilities and can cater for up to 5 adults, 4 of these were brand new in 2004 and have 2 bedrooms and a television.
The other 6 units have an ensuite and a toaster, kettle and fridge.

The 11 metre salt water pool, 9 hole mini golf course and television room, ensure that the younger visitors to Bedrock Village have plenty to keep them occupied.
BBQS, and 2 camp kitchens are offered for self catering. Clothes lines and laundry facilities are available in the recreation area.
Pet minding is available for those wishing to join a tour; the fee is a donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Most evenings from Easter until the end of September, there are free camp-fire activities and inexpensive evening meals are served. Everyone is encouraged to join in and have a laugh and feed and enjoy the family atmosphere with Jo, Joe their kids Amy and Toby.

Tours are varied and cover a fascinating range of topics and places. Day tours to the world famous Undara Volcanic National Park, include a walk up Kalkani Cone
learning about our volcanic past. Learn from the encyclopaedia of the bush as your guide shows you stories told by rocks and plants and wildlife in the changing landscape of the National Park.
A tour to Whitewater cattle station will give you an insight into the workings of a modern cattle station. The huge buttress fig at the head of the Craigeburn Spring is magnificent and a perfect spot for smoko. Then onto the station homestead where you meet the owners who will explain the many aspects of station life including a working cattle dog demonstration.
Take a trip aboard the Savannahlander train for a 2 hour journey to the quaint outback town of Einasleigh. Have a wonder down to Copperfield Gorge with its basalt columns. View the antique miniature furniture displays at the local pub. On the return journey enjoyed billied tea on the banks of the Einasleigh river.
A must is a trip to Cobbold Gorge with its fascinating reflections and silent boat cruise where towering walls tell 35,000 years of geological history. Penny turtles plop into the clear green waters and freshwater crocodiles flick away into the still depths. On the return trip call in and see the magnificent state of the art mineral and crystal display at the Terrestrial Centre in Georgetown.
For something different, how about a tour of the local creek with young Toby or a town tour with the delightful Amy? These youngsters will give you a whole new insight into their back yard.
Tag a long topaz gem fossicking tours to O'Briens Creek, can be arranged from Bedrock Village. Experience the thrill of digging your own semi precious stone and having it set into a striking piece of jewellery.
Tallaroo Hot Springs are just 50ks from Bedrock Village. Tallaroo is the only terraced hot springs of its kind in Australia. Relax in the magnificent pool which has a high success rate with the relief of arthritic conditions.
