QR Traveltrain in North Queensland is historically connected
to the development of this diverse area of Australia. The need
for the region to grow and extend itself saw the construction
of rail links connecting the coastal ports to the mines, logging
camps, farms and stations.
Today
QR is committed to maintaining that historical connection by way
of its two 'tourist' railway experiences. With quality interpretive
information and dedicated staff these journeys of discovery provide
an insight into the developing region of the late 1800's.region.
The Gulflander, an accredited Savannah Guides product, is the historic rail service that goes from nowhere
to nowhere. Venturing from Normanton on the remote Gulf of Carpentaria
the train travels to Croydon 145 km away each week.
This is old
gold territory with a history to match the incredible terrain.
Everyone enjoys the interpretive walks and a 'cuppa' at Blackbull
along the way.
The Kuranda Scenic Railway is universally known as one of the
world's great train experiences.
Built under extremely difficult
and dangerous conditions over 100 years ago the line now winds
its way from Cairns to Kuranda, 350m above sea level. The journey
takes in 34km of breathtaking, world heritage listed, tropical
rainforest in the Barron Gorge National Park.
QR Traveltrain is proud to be a significant sponsor of the Savannah
Guides organisation and is committed to our team becoming qualified
Savannah Guide members.
