Become A Member

As a growing organisation promoting high standards of nature based guiding and conservation, Savannah Guides welcomes membership inquiries. The process of becoming a member involves satisfying a number of criteria, including:

  • A commitment to the mission of Savannah Guides
  • Formal accreditations, licences and qualifications
  • Participation in Savannah Guides Schools
  • Assessment of guiding or management skills by your peers
  • Acceptance of the nomination by the Board of Directors

Savannah Guides has a variety of membership categories:

Enterprise Membership

Enterprise members become a link in the Savannah Guides network, and are endorsed as tour operations of a high standard. They are invited to participate in Savannah Guides Schools, corporate marketing opportunities and receive the support of like-minded businesses. There are important benefits in staff development, site management, corporate imagery, visitor referral, tour packaging, buying networks and industry networking.

Progression from entry level to master level enterprise affords a higher participation level in marketing activities, and a generally higher level of involvement in the organisation.

Enterprise membership levels are:

  • Savannah Guide Site (eg a nature based tourist attraction)
  • Savannah Guide Operator (eg a safari company)
  • Savannah Guide Station
  • Savannah Guide Master Operator

Individual Membership

Savannah Guides members are acknowledged as protectors and interpreters of Australia's Tropical Savannahs, and are well respected in the tourism industry and regional communities of northern Australia. Guides receive opportunities for formal (accredited) and informal learning. Guide training is a central function of the organisation, through Savannah Guides Schools, accreditation through nationally recognised qualifications and educational links. As a group, members are able to assist regional communities through sustainable tourism projects. Employment opportunities with other Savannah Guides enterprise are significant. The camaraderie and mutual support of peers, mentors and trainees is the heart of Savannah Guides.

Individual membership levels are:

  • Site Interpreter (guide at stationary enterprises)
  • Roving Interpreter (guide with mobile operators)
  • Savannah Guide (senior guide/supervisor at enterprise)
  • Special Member (non-guiding senior representative of enterprise)

Social Membership

Individual or organisation wishing limited participation. This associate category of membership offers communication links with Savannah Guides through newsletters and invitations.

Corporate Membership

Savannah Guides Limited offers organisations a range of sponsorship opportunities. Immediate exposure to members is available through Savannah Guides School sponsorship. Support "in kind" or cash donations are welcome, affording representation and sales opportunities.

Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsorships are negotiable "in kind" or cash donations. These may incorporate marketing, environmental project or other activities. Significant publicity through Savannah Guides' domestic and international media program is available. The Savannah Guides brand is well established and linked to elements such as trusted guides, environmental management, remote areas, exploration and outback hospitality.
